"You Are Wrong"
During the last weeks of our Lord’s life, the Sadducees came to Jesus and asked him a question hoping to entrap him (Matt.22:23). The Sadducees, of course, did not believe in the resurrection from the dead (Acts 23:8). . The question concerned a woman who had been married to seven brothers (Matt.22:24-28) . Their questions was, “In the resurrection, therefore, of the seven, who wife will she be?”
In answering the question Jesus responded, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God” (Matt.22:29). He went on to explain that in the resurrection there is no marriage but men are like the angels in heaven (Matt.22:30-31). Why were the Sadducees wrong? They were wrong because they did not know the Scriptures.
The Scriptures are God’s words. Paul wrote, “All Scripture is God breathed” (2 Tim.3:16). Whenever what we teach differs from the Scriptures then we are wrong. Whatever God says on any subject is the truth on that subject. “Sanctify them by your truth your word is truth (John 17:17).” We must always evaluate what we believe and practice by the Scriptures (Acts 17:11). If it is not found there then, we are wrong.
