He That Overcomes
The Book of Revelation was written to Christians who were about to undergo severe persecutions and unimaginable hardships because of their faith in Jesus. The book is not about how to defeat the persecutors, or even how to avoid the suffering. It’s about enduring and overcoming the temptation to give up on Jesus.
In Revelation 2 & 3 Jesus gives specific instructions to seven churches in Asia. In each case, He tells the Christians in those places to overcome. They must continue to have faith in Him and stand with Him if they want to win life’s ultimate victory and inherit eternal life with Him. Chapter 7 even gives us a glimpse of that reward saying that we will never hunger or thirst anymore, and God will wipe away every tear.
It’s often the suffering of life that causes many to give up on Jesus. In those times of suffering we need to remember the great lesson of Revelation. Jesus is going to win, and those who by faith overcome the world will reign with Him.
