Pain of Sin

The 38th Psalm records these words of King David, “There is no soundness in my flesh because of Your anger, nor any health in my bones because of my sin. For my iniquities have gone over my head; like a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. My wounds are foul and festering because of my foolishness.”

Have you ever felt that kind of pain; the pain that comes from knowing you messed up and messed up bad? David penned these words after committing adultery with Bathsheba. As a man after God’s own heart, there’s no doubt David knew what he was doing was wrong when he was doing it. That guilt lay heavy on his heart and ate away at him.

That’s what sin does to us, especially when we know better. Maybe there’s something amiss in your life right now. You’ve sinned and you know you’ve sinned. There’s only one thing you can do. Repent and turn back to God.

David concluded his Psalm with this plea: “Do not forsake me, O LORD; O my God, be not far from me! Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation!”
